Captain
Al Vogt:

Captain AL got started in S.C.B.A. in 1993. For
years he worked in the Environmental field as a level 1 confined
space rescue leader. In the winter of 1993 he did his first SCUBA course in Cancun Mexico. He continued to dive there for the next 5
years. Not until 1999 did he achieve his first real 'C" card with
PADI as an Open Water diver. He stayed with PADI thru 5
"specialties", Advanced and Rescue and then was awarded his "Master
Diver." Now hooked on diving, he began climbing the proverbial ladder and
is presently an Asst. Instructor with TDI. He holds advanced nitrox,
decompression procedures and extended range. His primary interests are wreck
diving, spear fishing and technical deep diving. Captain Al has dived
in many places around the world including the deep wrecks of the Great
Lakes but still insists that there's no place on Earth like North Carolina
wreck diving. Captain Al began diving the blue clear waters of North Carolina in 2000 and soon found himself mating one of
the local dive boats where his ship mates nicknamed him the
"Magnet". It didn't seem to matter where they dropped him or in what
visibility or current, he always found the wreck. After a near fatal accident
almost took away the captain of the vessel he worked for, Al obtained his USCG
Captain's license…just another license for him. He also is an instrument
rated, aerobatic, and commercial airplane pilot as well as holding a
commercial driving license for tractor trailers. Is there anything out he can't
drive??? Captain Al keeps a winter home in Baltimore, MD where he still does environmental work for the USCG. His summer
home in Morehead
City, NC keeps him close the sport that he loves. Look
10,000' up or 200' down…where's Captain Al???

Captain Jim Smith

Capt. Jim Smith got his start in diving during a resort
course in Cancun, Mexico during Spring Break
'95. He got his PADI Open Water certification in Aug. 1997 and did his first ocean dive out of Hatteras,
NC on the wreck of the Dixie Arrow. Becoming hooked on wreck diving, he began working as a
mate in Morehead City in 1999 and earned his Dive master certification in March 2000. He became a USCG Captain in July 2004. He has traveled to a multitude of diving destinations in the Caribbean, the
Pacific, and the Red Sea but still ranks coastal NC as one of his favorite
destinations. He is an avid underwater videographer and has recently become interested in spear fishing as well. He resides in central Pennsylvania where he is in a group practice as a general dentist.

Captain Amy Broughman

Amy got her start in diving at a resort course in Cancun, Mexico, in 1999. She and her husband Wade immediately fell in
love with the sport, and enrolled in an open water class immediately after
relocating from New Jersey back
toVirginia. Stress and rescue, advanced open water,
nitrox, and advanced nitrox followed.
Amy became an SSI dive control specialist in 2004, and worked as an
assistant instructor with a local dive shop for two seasons. She received her USCG captain’s license in
2006 and is currently under Captain Al’s watchful eye as she learns the finer
points of managing the Mutiny. She and
husband Wade have dived in many Caribbean destinations,
but prefer North Carolina wreck
diving. They live in Chesapeake,
VA.

Captain Mike Daniel

Captain
Mike Daniel began diving his freshman year at East Carolina University, and
during his senior year, finished up his NAUI Assistant Instructor and Divemaster
ratings. After graduation in 1987, Mike accepted the staff
divemaster role at Nags Head Pro Diver Center and was hooked for good, staying
on staff with NHPDC for 3 summers before graduate school and eventually a career
as a molecular biologist at UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine pulled him a
little farther away from the coast. For nearly 20 years; however,
Mike has continually served as an active divemaster and past 3 years as
co-captain diving the many wrecksites throughout coastal NC. He
became a USCG Licensed Captain in 2002 and continues actively serving as
divemaster and master captain aboard vessels operating out of Morehead City.
He currently lives in Durham, NC and is a Assistant Director of Operations/Resourcing for Duke Clinical Research Institute.

Divemaster Wade
Broughman

Wade began his diving career, along with wife Amy, in Mexico in 1999. He has completed open water,
advanced open water, stress and rescue, nitrox, advanced nitrox, and dive
control specialist. While his passion is
scuba diving, during the winter months he makes his living as the vice
president of finance of a local hospital system. He lives with his wife and two kids in Chesapeake,
VA.

Divemaster Robert Minnick

Robert began diving in 1999, in Key West, Florida; his wallet and scarce
free time the instant victims of love at first dive. His first investment for his
future dive career was a shiny new shopping cart. Armed with this time
tested tool, he knew that he could spend his last dime on equipment,
training, and dive trips, and still be able to collect enough aluminum cans to
afford dinner. And spend he did. Today Robert is an SSI advanced open
water instructor for Chesapeake Bay Diving, part owner of a small dive
charter business (Agua Azul Diving) based in Key Largo, an aspiring
underwater photographer (another love discovered along the way), and of
course one of the dive masters aboard the dive vessel Mutiny.

Divemaster Malena Sharkey

Yes her last name is indeed Sharkey, and since she holds a Coast Guard
ticket as master of an un-inspected power vessel, you and call her Captain
Sharkey if you’d like. If that doesn’t do it for you though, perhaps Mermaid
Sharkey will, as she is a semi-pro mermaid model. Then again, you could
use Instructor Sharkey since she holds an advanced open water instructor’s
certification with SSI. Whichever title you chose for her please remember that
behind the pretty smile, and pirate wit, is a truly die-hard diver with 500
plus dives ranging from the near zero vis off Virginia beach, to the blue
infinity of the south Caribbean.

Divemaster Clint Babcock

Clint Babcock has been certified as a dive master for several years but has been diving for well over 20 years. He has dived all over the world including the Red Sea, the Pacific, the Caribbean, etc., but by far his favorite place to dive is NC wreck diving. While not diving, Clint lives with his wife and dogs in Greensboro, NC. Clint also holds a OUPV (six pack) U.S. Coast Guard captain's license and is our resident webmaster.

Divemaster Jeff Lockwood
Jeff Lockwood received his Divemaster rating in May of 2007, and is in avid wreck diver, spending his free time researching wrecks both known and those that remain unfound. He has dived in the murky waters of New Jersey to the beautiful Gulf Coast of Florida, but North Carolina's incredible visibility, coupled with the various types of wrecks, including those yet to be found, make Morehead diving his favorite.

Captain Roy Cowan
In memory of our brother, James Roy Cowan, who died in August, 2006, rescuing a diver aboard another boat. He
was an important member of our family, and is greatly missed. Smooth sailing, sailor.
