| | TRIP REPORTS SEPTEMER 2006
Friday, Sept. 8: Headed out to the Aeolus in 4' seas. The Mutiny takes the seas rather well, and no one seemed to mind the ride. Tied in at the break, had 30-35' of visibility. Water temp was 79* top to bottom. Vis on the surface was probably 100'. Some surge on the surface, but little current on the bottom. Second dive on the Indra. I must say, this was a delightful dive. I don't enjoy the inshore wrecks as much as the offshore wrecks, but we were blessed with 20' of visibility and again, 79* top to bottom. The wreck was covered in sand dollars and beautiful shells. Lots of sea life as well: eels, drum fish, toad fish, etc.
Saturday, Sept. 9: Set out to the wreck formally known as the Papoose. Sea conditions very similar to the prior day. Small thermocline at 65' dropped the temp to 75* on the bottom. Visibility was 50' or so. The resident sandbar shark graced us with an appearance (I was lucky enough to snare a tooth he was kind enough to drop), along with the usual large numbers of sand tigers. One of our divers speared a 45 lb. cobia, and it sure made for good eatin' last night at the dock picnic. We also saw toad fish, a scorpion fish, frog fish, eels, barracuda, rays, and other marine life. It was a GREAT dive. Considered staying for two there, however forecast called for building seas, so we headed back in towards the Aeolus. Our luck ran out at the Aeolus. We still enjoyed a nice dive, but visibility had dropped to 15' or less. Water temp was still 79* top to bottom, but very little was seen on this dive. Seems like most of the marine life had a prior engagement.
